How To Style a Chambray Shirt

I’ve always found chambray shirts cute but very hard to style. Since I’m a jeans girl, I was afraid of mixing the two out of fear of following the denim-on-denim trend (works for some people, but not me!). My lifelong BFF gave me this J.Crew chambray button up (similar here) after cleaning out his closet last year, and I finally pulled it out this week and got a little creative. Thus, I give you my version of how to style a chambray shirt!

This look is more chic and trendy than the traditional ways to style chambray and that’s why I love it. I’m all about traditional pieces, but sometimes ya gotta make it fit with your personality! A few simple touches can make a big difference. Knot it up at the bottom and you’ve got a stylish, oversized vibe. So cute and easy! Throw on some black or white skinny jeans or these Madewell Demi Boot jeans (post on the jeans coming up soon!), a patterned shirt, and you’re done! This could also be worn with a fun, bright shirt underneath and a pair of white denim for the spring. Chambray is a common wardrobe staple that’s extremely versatile. Those last two words are beginning to shape my new wardrobe inspo – I believe a great closet should have fewer, versatile pieces rather than large quantities of “blah” pieces.

Sometimes, the best gems in your closet are the ones you didn’t expect. Thrifting, clothes swapping, borrowing, etc. are all great ways to experiment with new pieces before deciding to invest. Just make sure you give the clothes back in the same condition you found them in! (translation: Amanda, sorry again for ruining your jumpsuit!) Another way to test out new trends is going through a service like Rent The Runway, StitchFix, or Trunk Club. These companies offer clothing rental for everyday casual outfits – which is genius! I’m debating trying one of them out to see if I can find some fun and unique pieces for spring. If any of you have tried them, tell me what your experience was in the comments below! And tell me how you like to style chambray!

Thanks for reading, and thanks again to my BFF Tyler for giving me this shirt! xoxo,
