14 Things to do for 14 Days of Quarantine

I spontaneously put this together last night so I thought I’d share! Here’s 14 things you can do that are social-distancing approved, challenge your brain, and don’t involve zombie-ing out in front of a TV. Have you done any of these? Let me know!

  1. Have a cook off – Ever seen the show Chopt? Gather three or four random ingredients in your kitchen and challenge yourself to make an entree that incorporates all of those ingredients. I’ve done this a few times with my friends and it’s SO much fun! We even time it and have judges, just like the show.
  2. Call a friend or relative – I’d like to FaceTime two friends I don’t get to see that often & call my Grandma who is quarantined in her nursing facility. I’m sure she would really appreciate the virtual company!
  3. Do a puzzle – Pull out a thousand piece puzzle (or slightly less if that’s too ambitious!) and get to work. I have one sitting on my dining room table right now!
  4. Play trivia – Google simple trivia questions and play in SMALL groups in person or virtually in teams. This is definitely an activity that will stimulate your brain!
  5. Play a board game – Now’s the time to pull out those really long games like scrabble, monopoly, life, etc. and play with your family/roommates. You can’t use the excuse “there’s not enough time to play the whole game” anymore!
  6. Solve a murder mystery – My coworkers and I signed up for Hunt A Killer and it was such a fun activity! They’re offering the entire mystery in one box rather than in a monthly subscription. This will definitely keep you occupied for HOURS. Visit the website here.
  7. Actually watch a movie – The past three nights I’ve picked out a free movie on on-demand and put my phone down and actually watched the movie. I felt more present and it was nice to not have my mind going back and forth between two screens.
  8. Clean out your car – I plan on wiping down my car’s interior during my lunch break! Since I won’t be driving all that much…now’s a good time!
  9. Try a new hairstyle – Experiment with different curling or blowdrying techniques. You CAN prefect that beachy curl that they do so well in hair salons!
  10. Blog – Exactly what I’m doing right now! If you’ve ever thought of creating a blog, do it. You have time to build a basic website and jot down whatever thoughts come your way!
  11. Try yoga – I previously did yoga for 12 weeks (blog post about my experience here) and felt really great afterwards. My mind was less cluttered and it especially helped my anxiety. My favorite virtual yoga instructor is Sarah Beth Yoga.
  12. Run outside – Or walk, or jog, or bike. Anything to get your butt outside for some vitamin D and exercise!
  13. Take neighborhood strolls – I’ve taken a neighborhood walk a few times now and I can honestly say, now I get why older couples do this after dinner. It’s actually nice walking around after eating a big dinner…you don’t feel as “blah”.
  14. Create new outfits – If you’re going to clean out your closet or at least rearrange your closet, might as well piece together some new outfits! You never know what you’ll find.

I hope these were some fun suggestions for ya’ll! And on a more serious note, please take social distancing seriously. By going out and about your normal day, you could potentially infect people who are at a much higher risk of fatal health complications from COVID-19. Think of your grandmother, your parents, your friend with an autoimmune disease…these are the people we want to protect!
