How I’m Celebrating National Stuttering Awareness Week 2020

Hi there! Time has flown by so fast that I nearly forgot it’s National Stuttering Awareness Week! How are you guys raising awareness for stuttering during this time? You could share this video below that demonstrates a common fear for people who stutter…it’s really good! Give it a watch below:

Honestly, I’ve been so busy with my new job that I’ve barely thought about my stutter. You can read about how I’ve been dealing with my speech during this pandemic in my last blog post. Stuttering just doesn’t seem a big deal during times like these, you know? But, nonetheless, it’s something that does need attention. Raising awareness for stuttering will help end the stereotypes that surround stuttering. We’re NOT nervous, embarrassed, timid, introverted, etc. We just stutter! So please treat us with respect and let us finish our sentences 🙂

So, my latest stuttering project that helps raise awareness for stuttering (and challenges me to step out of my comfort zone) is hosting my first WEBINAR! I’m really excited to announce that I’ve joined the NSA’s We Stutter @ Work team and am cohosting a webinar with a fellow PWS about building allies in the workplace. I’m really excited (and a little nervous) for it! Click this link to read the register.

It’ll be held May 19th at 1pm EST and will last approximately an hour. Feel free to share this webinar link with your colleagues – it’ll count as raising awareness for stuttering 🙂

How is everyone holding up? I’ve been keeping myself busy with projects and spending a lot more time outside. We just got new deck furniture so I’ll be parking my butt outside all summer and working! Stay safe everyone 🙂
