My Fitness Motivation
Hi friends! You’re currently reading my first fitness post, woohoo! To kickstart this topic, I wanted to talk about the first step in any type of fitness routine: motivation.
I’m a highly active individual who loves running and strength training. One day I’d love to get into yoga, but for now I’ll just stick to my current workouts. I became pretty athletic in my high school days; I ran cross country and indoor/outdoor track throughout high school, and although I didn’t run on a college team, I continued to run on my own after I graduated. It was a tough transition going from having practice every single day with a huge team to solo workouts when I could squeeze them in, but I stuck with it because I was highly motivated to push myself out of my workout comfort zone. I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could work out harder than I ever had before.
Starting + sticking with a fitness routine is tough and requires a ton of self-discipline. I learned the importance of self-discipline through cross country. My freshmen year of high school, my coach told the team (actually, he quoted Oprah)
Running is the greatest metaphor for life, because you get out of it what you put into it
Even though it’s super cheesy, it’s totally true! If you want to see the change, you must be the change. Even though I don’t chant this mantra to myself every morning in the mirror, it is something I think of whenever I’m not in the mood to, but totally need to, workout.
To quote my mission statement at the footer of my website, I love seeing the how my hard work makes an impact. I see my body grow and change in ways I never thought capable (they’re small changes, but a change nonetheless!), and it feels so good knowing that my efforts are paying off. Whatever your reasons are for working out (to lose weight, maintain your physique, or indulge in weekly trips to coldstone) remember that in order to achieve these goals, you have to be motivated enough to push yourself past your comfort zone. It can be scary, but SO worth the risk!
