Stutter

NSA @ Home 2020 Virtual Conference

Why hello there! It’s been a hot minute. I’m typing this out as I’m listening to my We Stutter @ Work team members discuss some fabulous advice for succeeding at work with a stutter. Even though the conference is online and we’re all missing that social component, I think the NSA has done a wonderful job making the conference as fun and informative as possible.

As part of the We Stutter @ Work team, we had to give a panel presentation on stuttering and career success. I’ve never given a presentation over zoom to such a large audience (about 250 attendees!) so I was a *little* nervous. But it was such a good presentation and the chat box was booming. We discussed tips for succeeding at job interviews, how to prepare for the first day on the job, how to give successful presentations, and how to communicate in meetings. There was all kinds of good stuff!

My favorite part about the presentation was reading the discussions in the chat box. It warms my heart to see people ask and give advice to others, chime in and share their experiences, and just be engaged. Things like this remind me why I love to blog about stuttering. Sometimes I lose sight of my motivation – actually, I had lost it for quite a while since the fall of 2019. I was feeling overwhelmed with a new job, struggling with a lot more anxiety than usual, and juggling way too much on my plate. Anywho, my personal rant aside, the NSA Conference reminds me each year why stuttering is such an important part of my life and that there’s no better feeling than helping someone feel confident in themselves.

Did any of my readers attend the conference? If so, what’s been your favorite workshop so far? Mine’s been the screening of John Gomez’s film, When I Stutter. I actually wrote a whole blog post about that too – linked here.

Happy stuttering!
