Fall Road Trip

Gooooood morning/afternoon/evening!  I recently went on a fall road trip to New England with my mama, and I wanted to share our adventures! This is my first, and hopefully one of many, travel entries. Being in-between jobs = free time to travel! …and overspend. Then again, what is being in your twenties without a little overspending, right?

Our road trip was originally going to be just Manchester and Woodstock in Vermont,  but a very happy wrench got thrown into the plans, and we ended up stopping in Maine! (“stopping in” isn’t the right phrase, more like driving 7+ hours from Manchester up to Maine, then driving back home for 12+ hours all at once). My family is looking to buy a cabin in Maine, hopefully somewhere in the little town of Greenville on Moosehead Lake. We’ve been vacationing up there during the summers for a few years now, and it’s such a cute town with breathtaking views of the lake (and lots of moose watching!).

So, our road trip ended up consisting of Manchester, Woodstock, and Greenville. We drove straight up to Manchester, VT on day 1 and explored for the early evening. The towns in Vermont don’t seem very large, so one day was plenty of time for us. If we had planned on stopping in every little shop that we came across, we would definitely have needed several days! But alas, we just window shopped and had ourselves a ball. It was really fun to spend quality time with my mama doing activities the both of us love (She lives for New England falls!). We came across some cool places and picturesque spots, so we stopped and snapped a few pics.

These trees were right off the side of the main road! So so so pretty

On our way back to our hotel, we saw this cute Airstream nestled in these trees and had to make a pit stop. My dad has always wanted an Airstream so we had to snap a pic for him!

On a side/style note, it was warmer than usual for October in Vermont so I was able to wear this cute little ensemble! I paired a white summer romper with some lace tights and a brown cardigan, and I loved this look! I felt like a cliche traveler with my backpack, courtesy of grandma, but it was so handy not having to carry around a big purse.

On day 2, we finished exploring Manchester and made our way up to Maine. We made a pitstop at the Vermont Country Store, and then headed to Woodstock for lunch. The Vermont Country Store was so darling! It was packed with tourists though, (mostly older folks that came in groups of bus tours. I was definitely the youngest one in that store. But hey, I won’t complain! I will happily travel as much as I can while I have the time!). The highlight of Woodstock was seeing Middle Bridge. It was neat to see it in person after seeing it on so many blogger’s feeds. It was raining during our time in Woodstock, so we didn’t stay too long. We grabbed some clam chowder soup at a restaurant in town and hit the road again.

Our last, and furthest north stop was Greenville, Maine. We got there late at night, and driving on the backroads was a little creepy. I stupidly decided to google moose crashes and got myself paranoid we would plow into a moose at 11:30 at night…luckily we didn’t, and we had some good laughs about my paranoia on the way back! It was absolutely b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l  though, driving up there while it was still daylight. The trees were close to peak in Vermont and even closer in Maine! We got there super late and got up early to look at a few lots. They were SO pretty!! One day soon we’ll get to own a little piece of heaven up there!

After some shopping (my favorite purchase was a wild Maine blueberry pancake mixture that I’m saving for the perfect Sunday morning!) and lunch, we headed home for the looooong drive back. We had an amazing time on this trip! It was my first fall experience in New England. I will definitely be going back! One tip I will say to readers & my future self is to plan ahead and get hotel reservations as early as possible. I called a bunch of places in Manchester and Woodstock before finally finding a place that was reasonably priced! If you’re thinking of traveling to New England to see the foliage next year, I highly recommend it, especially with your mama! The pictures, though pretty, don’t do it justice. I can honestly say that I never enjoyed driving for hours on end as much as I did in New England!

Happy mid fall, ya’ll! xoxo,
