Dreaming of Apartment Decor
I have discovered a newfound love/hate relationship with interior design/decorating. While I’m fascinated by the possibilities and the mood you can create with a few key pieces, it can also be SOOOO overwhelming! There’s so many choices and it’s hard to picture the final “look”. Pinterest has been my new social media app of choice lately. I always look at previous pins I’ve saved and analyzed what I liked about it. It sounds tedious, and it is, but I’ve learned what patterns, textures, colors, statement pieces vs minimal pieces I’m drawn to. And yes I realize that it’s just a temporary apartment and that I’m not renovating a home lol, but it is really fun to start to gather things that we can take with us into a home.
Here’s some things that I’ve purchased and LOVED (like my hand soap! and diffuser!) and some things that I’m using for inspiration and hope to purchase. Or find something similar to!
Bed sheets and duvet – Pottery barn bedding is GOALS for me. I love the perfectly staged beds with fluffy comforters and duvets and tons of pillows. I hope our bed can look like this! The soft neutrals with a light pattern are simple and calming without being too boring.
Hand soap – I can thank Merle Norman in Olney for getting me hooked onto Lafco’s products. They smell incredible – not too artificial, not too strong, and just enough. They don’t smell like cheap bath and body works scents (no offense!). Also, bar soap lasts WAY longer than other hand soap! So it’s actually more cost effective 🙂
Diffuser – I’ve wanted this one for a few years but couldn’t justify spending money on it since I use candles a lot. But, this particular marine scene is just so light and perfect and I wanted to smell it all the time. So I caved! I keep it in the bathroom and it just makes the space feel cleaner
Lafco candle – continuing on with the good smelling theme. Again, Lafco’s scents are so lovely and so different than anything else I’ve smelled! The jars are also beautiful and can serve as planters, brush holders, pencil cups, a little vase, etc. This bright orange color is especially beautiful and will add a nice pop of color. The scent is cilantro and orange – I know, it sounds crazy weird but I’ve smelled it in person and it’s actually wonderful. And this is coming from someone who doesn’t like cilantro on their food, haha!
Voluspa candle – another fabulous scent and it’s way more affordable than the Lafco candles are. But both are lovely! This one stays in the bedroom and is my “winding down” scent.
Rug – I have a 3×5 of this pottery barn wool/jute rug that I scooped up on sale and it is beauuuutiful. I love the color, texture, and material. I’m debating a larger version of this rug for our living room – or something more fun with a pattern like this rug, or this one. Or this one! Ahhhh how do you pick!?
Lamp – I love the spindle base and it’s really pretty in gold! This would also be really pretty in a wood base.
Tray – rattan things in small doses are definitely my style. I have a tissue box cover, want to order a bathroom shelf, and love this tray for the coffee table! The scallop detail is lovely.
Rifle Paper prints (green, blue) – I already have a few Rifle Paper prints and they’re so nice. This style looks a little more vintage and I love the colors – they’re not too bright but also not too plain. I might order these and find some pretty wooden frames!
Phew, that was a long one! Thanks for reading. I used to skip past other bloggers’ home decor posts, but now they’re the ones I like to read the most!
